Geography is taught to all lower school students and is a very popular GCSE option. This enhances the students’ awareness of contemporary geographical issues in Britain, Europe, and the developing world. A fieldwork investigation is undertaken. Many students choose to study geography in the Sixth Form. Students are given a good grounding in both physical and human geography, both courses examining the way in which humans interact with their environment. Geology and Environmental Science are taught at KS5.
Key Stage 3 geography
We start year 7 by going straight into local fieldwork, we take the students into the Lake District for a day to investigate the impacts of tourism.
An important part of year 7 is the introduction of some of the key skills required to be a top geographer, these include map, atlas and math skills. These are essential parts of geography which we build on throughout key stage 3 and into GCSE and A level.
Other topics that we cover are settlement, tourism and environmental issues.
